    Dear LPL,

    Looking on Ebay, I can't find lock cylinders for anything close to 30 cents each. Any tips?

    Ty,

      I liked leaving my locks in the picked position but from now on I'm going to leave them locked ready to practice

              "Lock": 24x
              "Locks": 21x
              Together is 45x but you said "lock" so 24x.

                  I think this applies to learning a new skill in general. For years, I made the mistake of thinking that playing a difficult (for me) song on the piano and mastering it would make me better in general. But it doesn't work like that. You can pick up some mechanical skills from an individual song, but pretty soon, your mind starts learning how to get from one note to the next instead of "generalizing" the movement. That's why every song was just as difficult to learn as the last since I learned songs and not techniques.

                  Learning locks instead of lockpicking is a valuable perspective. Thanks for pointing that out.

                    To anyone still watching this, idk if it’ll be the same everywhere, but in my area hardware stores get locks that they can’t sell, but the company doesn’t want back, but they’re perfectly functional (missing key, damaged shackles, whatever), and they might be confused when you offer to buy/take them, and a manager will likely come over to decide the price, but I get them for free-$10, depending on the defect and the lock, but now the hardware stores in my area call me when they have those locks, lol

                                I bought a lock picking tool and picked only one lock with it. After picking the lock, my thought process was the same as you, that I cannot be a lock picker of I keep picking the same lock again and again, and I don't have any more locks to pick, and sites like eBay isn't accessible from where I live, so the whole picking shananigan is on hold. Anyway, I'd be glad if you make a video on how to detect individual pins on a lock and set them properly.

                                  It's like you read my mind. I was looking at beginner picking sets and wondering how to get a variety of locks to learn on, and how

                                          I think your advice in this video translates very well into other skills, for example playing the piano. If you just play the same song, you may learning how to play that song, but not how to play the piano.

                                                    I can kinda understand your mental-set. But is it healthy? I mean having 430 locks or $1200 worth is a LOT of money! But the really sad thing as you seem to not have ANY other thoughts. Are you actually a lawyer? Do you take a lunch box full of lock guts to court. Does the the judge ignore all the noises you make?

                                                    But on the other side... after I got my first (and only) set of picks (cheap, $8, from Banggood) I went to work sanding all the picks, at first. Well I was going to, but only got to pick #4, which was a snowman. I was very bored by then so I started watching YouTube—maybe even you? And I had a handful of locks, real locks not guts. Mostly Master brand. Guess what in 10 minutes I opened 5 locks! But the clincher??? I only used the snowman, and I only used my left hand because a stroke paralyzed my right side 20 years ago. And I didn’t look at the locks. And I didn’t use a “tensioning rod”. How could I? I guess I don’t have much of a point here, but it took longer to sand down 4 picks than it took to open 5 locks, with my left hand, no tensioner, no experience. So WTF? Why are there SO MANY videos about lock picking anyway? When a right handed newbie like me uses his left hand and... get it? Apparently the “nack” is born in people. Like the old song: “ If you DON’T KNOW, boy, I ain’t gonna tell you...”

                                                    Maybe you need to try sex or something. I bet lock picking is insanely boring — if you can do it. Do you keep learning? Or forget every 3 minutes and have to RELEARN ????

                                                    Enjoy! You do have a nice voice.
