it's as secure as a front / back door or a padlock.... it protects from the NOT so Criminal, but a real criminal will just steal this safe and beat it open in the woods somewhere. Of course, now that you've shown how to defeat it, multiple times, to the potential criminals, and even to the NOT so much a criminal.....

I wish you would come out to Hawaii. We have no classes and nobody comes here to train anybody we have to go to the mainland. You'd have a lot of locksmiths in your class.

The only use for this safe is to use it to put useless crap in there so the burglar waste his time messing with it instead of looking for your actual valuables.

Hi Mr. Locksmith I found your video and as my 2 year old sentry safe decided not to accept my code after I replaced the battery. My magnet is arriving in 3 days and if it does not work I will give you a call as I am from Vancouver as well.

I wonder if this has been fixed by the company or if they make the safes the same way.

Michael Maduske The combination version is slightly harder to open. Still offers good fire protection for the price.

This will probably work on any electronic safe or lock. Solenoid protection is only good if thief does not know the direction of the solenoid. They should change it to electric motor latch, where motor has to make like 10 turns to unlock and add a reed switch to detect an attempt and time lock for like an hour.

Now i am thinking of buying Bighorn Heavy Duty 6.9 Cu Ft Safe, 60 min Fire Protection with The Securam ECSL-601 electronic lock with UL certified swingbolt lock design, do you think swingbolt is good enough and magnet hack proof? Please suggest.

So you have perhaps a $300. Medeco lock and maybes a $2400 CMT cash safe there Greg? These expensive locks and safes will also protect you ....at least until a trained professional divulges their weakness then you can throw them out and pay even more money for something "manufactured better". The problem here is not the manufactures and their products. There will always be poor quality locks and safes on the market. If there wasn't, no one would be able to afford to secure their homes and property. The problem I have is that the job of a locksmith is to secure the peace of mind of their customers by advising appropriate hardware for the application. If the application and consequently the budget warrents a lighter quality lock then it is anti-productive to publish the weakness of that hardware so it can be more easily defeated by the criminal.

ps. With all the information out there on the deficiencies of Sentry safes......they have changed nothing. As a side note, there are a few large stores that have dropped the Sentry line.

                                                                  • Dale Fleming
                                                                    Dale Fleming  1 years back

It is called supply and demand. The consumer is only willing to spend so much money on a product. The manufacturer is only capable of investing so much technology in a low priced product. Most consumer doors are not substantial enough to justify an expensive high-security lock. Every lock, if scrutinized thoroughly enough, has known flaws in it. The security failure for most is the publication of this information which, although with perhaps good intention in mind exposes the owners of these locks to an increase in crime due to the advanced training of the criminal by the unwitting security "professional".

                                                                  • Dale Fleming

This is a legal "thing" not just an ethic thing. I was just being considerate in posting this before reporting him. If you are not a locksmith you probably don't understand why this is an issue that needs to be resolved.

The manufacturers make their products to suit the market and applications required for their customers. Not everybody can afford Abloy deadbolts nor have the door and frame to justify such. How expensive would a standard residential lock be if Schlage only made perfect locks.

                                                                  • Dale Fleming

So do you think that your grandfather would have been ethically justified if he had spent his time and knowledge within the security trade teaching people how easy it was to defeat the locks of the day? Does that benefit the general public by putting their security at risk while the lock manufacturers struggle to redesign and compensate for the shortcomings of their products pointed out by people like you for no practical reason other than demonstrating that you are better than them? Perhaps if you invented the perfect lock.....

If so, the safe is pretty useless when someone has a magnet. What about the fire rating and waterproof capabilities the safe has. If those arent useless then the safe is prepared to keep items safe in case of a fire...etc
