As a proud man from El Salvador. I appreciate your video but you need to go spend more times in my country before you start giving tips. Tons of ppl speak English in El Salvador. Is only common sense not to go to the bad areas. I’m not hating but dude is only common sense.

The way u laid it out and comparing it to nyc makes a lot of sense . I’m a born and raised New Yorker but my parents were both born in El Salvador so I’ve been back and forth to visit through the years . My mom keeps a house close to the US embassy in Cumbres de cuzcatclan and I love visiting there . I use to jog to Starbucks every morning .

I went to el Salvador in 2017 summer and I'm going again 2019. (I'm salvadorian half mexican) but be cautious going to San Salvador because alot of gang activity and robberies go down there especially at night. Also I I'm going to stay with my family in some state called ahuachapan and it's super guarded there and a military base is there.

My mother is from El Salvador, of course she left the country in the mid 60's. She about had a stroke (got really upset!) when I told her that I want to go. I am learning Castilian Spanish, and practice with my mom. How can it be for a female traveler there? I'm ex-military, I love guns, I'm not comfortable being unarmed, so I don't know about me feeling safe traveling. How much has changed in El Salvador, for the better, worse, same??

We just returned from El salvador we actually ended up staying in a small town call Bolivar in the dept of la Union. We rented an suv and we also took or paid people in town to drive us around. We honestly avoided tourists areas like the full service resorts and stayed at the Tortuga Verde instead a little more freedom. We had an amazing time.

I am an American, regular traveler to foreign countries for business and pleasure, I know of stories like this youtuber that are not exact. I have gone to El Salvador several times because I liked it from the first time: Beautiful beaches, volcanoes, rivers, nature, tasty food, everything can be covered in a short time and the best thing is that people are very friendly and generally take care that nothing bad happens to anyone, especially if they see you as a foreigner Obviously, there are places where you should not go which common sense tells you and the same Salvadorans tell you where not to go. (They are few areas) I have more fear of being robbed in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, some bad areas of New York, Chicago etc than in El Salv.

It also depends on what you look like, like you said if people know you're a foreigner they'll leave you alone and typically help you because of the power you hold over them, but like this dude, if you look like the people you're living a different experience. I know because this is something my El Salvadoran mother has warned me about when I've visited with her.

El Salvador gets enough unnecessary negative news, make video's about the thousands of good things instead. Just to be clear I'm a gringo who happens to love this little magical country.

i absolutely agree, white media is very bad with badtalking el salvador, i happen to be danish, white born and raised in denmark, my mother is salvadoran and even here the media constantly comes up with el salvador and honduras gangs, because they're fascinated by their vile crimes, and everytime i hear people talk about them here, i just cringe inside, europeans and scandinavians want to be like them.. claiming to be ms-13 members, like seriously. what the fuck are they talking for, this country's got nothing to do with my mothers. it's a stupid world..

during my time there, i strongly recommend visiting playa el sunzal, playa del tunco, tazumal and playa de la flores! (Y)

Using violence to eliminate gang or fix any problems sorry but i disagree having you greengos learn that has not work any where in the world where you have used that strategy and is like being a neanderthal cavemen not evolving investing in education first.

And why you think that is because the US couldnt remove a democratically elected president that was part of the X communist party so they use the media and google youtube facebook to spread this. here in youtube when you type el salvador the very first things that appear is ms13 gangs and violence coincidense no they are doing it purposely so people dont come to our country so they make the govenment look bad but arena lost once again.

I feel like is mostly propaganda. I remember watching news from Univision, a Spanish channel. They would remind people every other week about el salvador ms gang and how its dangerous to go there. Yet, they will hardly or quickly report about Mexican cartel a, violence and killings going on there. No country is perfect but I went back to el salvador a few years before and never have an encounter, I was around 25 yrs old. I visited my grandmas in usulutan and my aunts in San miguel I took the bus alone and I was safe. Just b alert dont sleep in the bus alone, avoid bad areas, just the usual. I love that it was still a little primitive in some areas. I do wish the army could eliminate Ms gang as it is a pest but it was created to defend against Mexicans and blacks in LA.

El Salvador is safe....like any other country it has good and bad areas..just use common sense. I remember my first time going back in 2015 (23 yrs after from when I first left) I was extremely anxy about it, extremely cautious. Been going ever since twice a year and I'm more relaxed now. I just pick my destination, rent a car and away I go. Great tips btw

I was born there and left at 9yrs old but I want to retire there. I avoided the dark in towns like the locals do. I went there a couple of times before going more "free roam." I travel alone but alert. Hide it phones dont be showing off in public or in the bus and of course not always I flash my phone and they have better ones. Go if u have family and of course it depends where. But theres cool weather, organic food organic fruits, gorgeous looking woman, palm trees, hiking volcanoes, everywhere is green. Check out el salvador plus. all natural a little primitive, but how I love it. If u r into high class environment with 4-5 * hotels then maybe u wanna stay in decameron or another resort. I cant wait to go back.... I miss it.

universal call I’m from the u.s but my parents know what the deal is there. they and my other family members tell me how bad it is and obv not everyone will get into problems but still though it is very dangerous and it’s a place that’s not recommended by a lot of people because of the crime that happens over there. gangs don’t target everyone. It’s just like Compton in Cali, you could go into Compton walking around and nothing would probably happen but it’s still a dangerous place to be in. Just because you don’t see or nothing bad happens to you doesn’t mean a place isn’t dangerous

Gang activity happens anywhere and anytime. 50 people or more die per day because of murder and if your not familiar with the country then you’ll easily get noticed and become an easy target. There are some places safer then others but no place in el Salvador is safe. The gangs control the streets.
