    How to upgrade this lock:
    1. Secure items with lock.
    2. Install blister pack on lock.
    Lock now 10× more secure.

It's such a shame when it almost takes longer to open the packaging than it does to open the lock.Thanks.

It's true. If you cannot fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.

that seems super secure if that’s the biggest flaw

The most secure thing about this lock is the blister pack

Designed by some homeschooled undergraduate who thought it looked stylish and snazzy and that the working classes are just too thick to take screws out. Hence called it a "beast" when in fact its a kitten! 🤓💨😮💨😋

This is apparently a bad lock design, and it's commendable that you've exposed it. However, it seems that this disassembly would be extremely difficult to do if the lock was hanging on a chain. Also, if you had bought this lock and wanted to salvage your investment, couldn't you make a simple mod to the top screw to make it almost impossible to remove? Fill in the screwdriver slot with glue, or put threadlock on the screw so it would be too hard to remove with only a screwdriver? Or maybe you could even tighten the screw so much that it couldn't be loosened by hand, or apply enough torque to round off the edges of the slot so the screw can't be turned? It doesn't seem likely that there would be a need to take the lock apart, anyway. It doesn't change the fact that the design was flawed, but now that you've demonstrated the design flaw, maybe a relatively simple hack might at least solve that problem and force a thief to resort to making a public display with a grinder.

If you want to do this silently, take a c-clamp and a roofing nail (or similar) and use it to drive the ball bearing in further. You don't need a hammer and punch. I have a tool for roll pins that would make breaking into this a snap

I just showed this to a friend who used to steal high end bikes and resell them to feed addictions and whatnot. He said "No way in hell. Too many tools, too much time." That tells me that unless you've provided the perfect setup for the thief, they're not going to waste their time.

That is definitely a poor design in general though.

*Perfect setup being something like an apartment with fenced in porches where people would just assume you're maybe working on your bike.*

You would think they could add one more step in assembly and drill out those two set screws then cap them with the ball bearing. That would have defeated the vulnerability I think.

Obviously a criminal isn't gonna be carrying these specific tools everywhere, not to mention the lock isn't going to be sitting on a table. Try hitting that while it's hanging on the chain. Every lock can be opened destructively, this seems just as obvious as cutting the chain
