Prime examples of honesty locks, not designed to protect things from people but to protect people from their own stupidity 😂 I've seen the sliding bolt locks on electrical cabinets ⚡ 💀 and the u-haul locks are pretty much for sealing units with something other than steel or plastic locking ties 😕

How does one know to do that? Or is that something you'd always attempt before picking it.

There's a design flaw to these videos. And that is the only expose the crappy locks. How about some credit to the ones that are good! Help us buy something decent

Are you reporting such flaws to the respective companies? Especially companies like ABUS do have a reputation. So they should be eager to fix the problems.

I imagine LPL is the boogeyman of the padlock society. They use stories of him when their padlock children are being bad.

"If you are not good Abus jr. LPL will come and shim you or shiv you with a number of things that are not keys..." its all so horrific lol...

All locks should be labeled with "SLPL" rating. That is, how many seconds it takes LPL to pick it open.

Except that a padlock that LPL can single-pin pick in five seconds, but that can't be easily raked or bypassed, would be beyond the ability of most criminals to pick.

So from my guess, these companies simply dont care and only sell their "locks" as "locks". 0 guarantee to secure anything.

There must be a cost-savings in not fixing these issues for them to still be present.

I think that's exactly right: the cost of re-engineering/retooling to fix these issues in their low-end products outweighs the potential damage to their reputation caused by keeping them on the market, especially when most of the cheaper products are only intended to provide token security in the first place. Having said that, it's shocking how many of these low-skill attacks still work.

The cheap coloured locks are just tamper-resistance anyway, but I object to the waste of materials and resources on the bigger brass locks - so very poor!

This lock can be opened by anyone with a key, a weak point that has been known to security professionals for decades, I find this oversight inexcusable.

Here is what happened. These locks were made by custom contract and were required to be this way for legal regulatory reasons such as a fireman being able to open the lock quickly to turn off the power in an emergency. Another example would be lockout locks. Badass guts but can be cut with pliers or smashed open with a stick in an emergency. Then, they decided to increase their profits by making a few more every run and adding them to the retail line. Inexcusable as fuck, but the only thing the corporate executives can be sent to jail for is failing to do whatever is needed to make money regardless of consequences to others.
