I just throw those things away, like every other guy when he buys a new gun.

Those linesman pliers with the Klein-coat handles are nice... if they were cleaned up a bit... you should send them to ScoutCrafter.

As someone else said, these aren't security locks, they're accident prevention locks.

The easiest way I've found to break these locks off is to get the shackle snuggled up in a vise flush with the lock body and give it a firm side on whack with a good size hammer. These things are really meant to keep curious adolescents out of trouble more than anything else.

Couldn't you cut away the plastic and try to move the things apart so you can get to the weak cable?

Your cable cutter is now made in China and wont cut through 3/16" cable as advertised. When Crescent H.K. Porter made this same cutter in the USA 30 years ago, they would slice through 3/16" cable like a knife through hot butter. Ask me how I know!

I thoroughly enjoy this content..., just fascinating stuff!
fwiw, the tool called side cutters in this vid are diagonal cutters,.. or "dikes".
                          Linesman cutters = Side cutters

Granted, ... I do understand regional jargon differences exist, especially profession specific. So again, fwiw.

the 9mm i bought recently came with a lock that is just like the red lock in this video. first thing i did was see how easy it would be to pick. took all of 2 seconds for a novice like myself. you can really tell gun manufacturers just include the bare minimum to get through regulations. i wouldn't trust one of these 4 pin cable locks to protect anything..

Trigger locks aren't really meant to withstand hard attacks they are to keep children from using the gun or to keep someone in your house from quickly accessing the use of the firearm if the gun is stolen then of course they will get pretty much any lock in the world off of it given they have all the time in the world

You can actually gain some force if you use the table to push down on the cutters, basically using the table as a base for a lever.

So that last company mostly needs to focus on improving the lock itself, then they'd be good?

                                        I don't think people
use these locks to prevent them from being stolen. I think it is to keep children from setting the firearm off. Or even from playing with them. With that being said I don't think a child is going to use wire cutters to cut a gun lock out of dads draw.

Lockpickinglawyer, this video serves as an example to those of us who are firearms collectors and owners that there are only 2 forms of security that work: 1st and most obvious is having the firearm under your direct control (in hand, holstered, etc.) And for weapons not under the owner's direct control, the 2nd security measure is to use multiple security measures to secure one's weapons. I use cable locks in each firearm (except Ruger®️™️ which use a Regal®️™️ padlock designed to fit the specific firearm), a thick security cable which runs through each weapon then out the back of the security cabinet and through the wall and secured out of sight, and all weapons are stored in a cabinet that is bolted to the concrete basement floor, and the security cabinet is installed in a closet with all spare space filled with sheetrock, and finally, I replaced the closet door with a fireproof steel door and frame bought at an auction for a whole lot less than a new closet door. As the legal owner of a unique selection of modern firearms, I felt compelled to safeguard these weapons from criminals and unauthorized adolescents. No security system is foolproof, but I designed mine to keep the interloper working long enough to get the police on scene long before entry is gained. Of course, the final security measure in place is our AT&T Digital Life security system with motion sensors in my little armory and door sensors on all exterior doors and windows plus the armory door and safe closet, glass break sensors in interior rooms and cameras to visually check inside and outside. It sounds like a lot but my "armory" room and closet were really easy and inexpensive to set up, especially after realizing that the majority of firearms safes are a waste of money and provide no more protection than a properly installed firearms cabinet.

Regal®️™️ also make the locks distributed with Ruger®️™️ firearms.

He probably should have started with a pair of fingernail clippers.

All in all the locks are completely symbolic. Needless to say NONE of them would survive a trip to the garage and portability isn't really an issue.

I didn't get a good look at the blades, but I'd be surprised if they'd ever been sharpened, once they left the store. I have an old pair, looks worse than those, but they've been sharpened...and that matters. Also, I don't know what LPL does in his spare time, other than messing with locks, but anyone who does much manual labor is likely to be more than a little stronger--hand cutters rely on hand strength.

But in the narrow hallways of most homes and apartments I would be better off waiting behind a corner with a bat than any firearm. The drugs released in the body during stressfull situations would make most peoples, myself included, aim go off by too much to be of use. The simple hit it with a stick approach human minds have as instinct. You can still miss with a bat but it is less likely to miss than a firearm. The average person will not want to use buckshot in there own home because of the collateral damage. Most bullets over penetrate casing possible harm to loved ones. Simplify it all the average person, myself included, does not have the discipline or training to use a firearm effectively during even a simple robbery. So the average lock is too keep the honest people honest and to give pease of mind to its user.

I wonder how a Steel Chisel & a 5 lb hammer would do with a vise or anvil backing the cable..?
