by the time you score a coin like this the money spent out weighs the find by at least 5x-10x...But people don't realize that in the end it's the search or the thrill of the hunt and that ping of the detector not the worth of the coin itself that ultimately fulfills the treasure hunter's desire! Although with finds like that he might just search that particular area for the next 10 years straight. I know I would.

How much of that did you get to keep after auction fees and income taxes?

Auctions always do this in the last 45 seconds. I found a slag glass lampshade for 10.00 at a St. Vincent De Paul store for 10.00. It sold for 620.00. A pair of matching early 1900 wall sconces I picked up at that same store for 25.00 sold for 870.00. Both auctions looked bad until those last 45 seconds.

it's why you detect - dig, come up with nothing much and keep going, week after week after week, month after month until you hit that unexpected miracle. One Coin worth $6,251.oo or maybe half a million. You just don't know until you get out there and search.

I magnet fish and i found a really old double barrel shotgun. Last week that was my best find so far. Still trying to clean it without using chemicals that will mess it up.

I get the feeling these coins were planted they look too shiny and new to be underground all these years you would think they would have been deteriorated. Regular coins that have been going through circulation for many years hand-to-hand look worse and the coins that are underground

so what should a person do if they found... I mean, find a seated liberty quarter 1856 and a flying eagle cent 1858 at a CW battlefield site?

                                                  What a fabulous find. Congratulations!
$6,251 is indeed a lot of money for a quarter, but this is a very rare coin and the undisputed "King" of the Barber Quarter series. Without the surface damage from being buried in the ground, this piece could easily have brought in the $25,000 to $30,000 range. No kidding!
(Being a life-long coin collector, I could never have parted with it even at that price!)
