Considering how quickly you open most locks, the newer one actually seems like a decent pick. An interesting fact: lockpicking sets are illegal in hungary, they can only be owned legally by the military.

Right now, the Master Lock spy that is watching this is disappointed that you didn't disassemble the 60 year old lock so that they could steal some upgrade ideas...

What holds the shackle in? Not a ball baring, but doesn’t look like a normal one either. Is it anti shim?

Do you have a video where you go over what you mean by spools, binding, counter rotations and when the lock sets and clicks?? Thanks

As a hungarian I can tell you, that these style of locks are pretty common in Budapest (capital of hungary)

An interesting product. The fact it is still made so many decades later, indicates they POSSIBLY are used by Utility companies, as are Wilson-Bohannon locks in the USA since 1860. Lock design looks NEARLY identical. W-B locks have incredibly hard shackles to grind through ( if you get the hardened, and not the Stainless or Brass shackle models. The locks you show may have old vs modernized production, so tooling would have minor differences to satisfy manufacturing equipment parameters. A nice THEN and NOW video. The keyway is LIKELY the same, as public utilities key their locks ALIKE.

you are always picking lock holding it with pins facing down, that allow to use gravity to check movement of key pins, how would you treat the lock mounted in door facing up? it's standard position of the cylinder in many countries .

There were companies back then but all of them were state owned. Pre-WWII companies were all nationalized in the 40's and 50's and remained under government control until 1990's.

hey @LockPickingLawyer unrelated to this specific video, but I picked my first lock today. our office lady at work went on holiday and left a stash of pens locked in her desk draw. I've watched hundreds of your videos and like to think I have an adequate understanding of how they work. I was able to quickly figure out that it was a wafer lock, and likely a cheap one. I got a paperclip half unbent it so it still had the small inner loop, pushed it into the lock and turned. it popped open first time.

I don't think I would have ever attempted that if your channel didn't teach me how locks worked, or that most locks are poor quality and can be easily picked with rudimentary tools.

thanks to you the techs at work have pens for the next few weeks :)

I don't doubt that for either of you, it's a breeze. Buti think it would further our, (your growing audience) education to see how you work around these types of obstacles while picking in the real world, for lack of a better term.
