Watch as one day, the lock gets pulled off whatever it was on instead of pulling out the core.

If someone REALLY wants to get in, a good lock wont do much to stop them

Srsly tho out in the field who's going to be able to put this lock in a bench vise and drive a tapcon screw into it.... While it's attached to whatever it's locked onto. Dumb

You are pulling the CYLINDER, not the core.

What I have learned from this channel: locks really just slow theft down, but a determined thief will get in.

I'd like to see (if such a thing exists) reviews on locks that _can't_ be defeated. It's pretty depressing, seeing every padlock being so easily compromised.

Asron Eightyseven I bought a lock pick set and I’m trying to pick it. I can open my front doors dead bolts and a few smaller padlocks but this bad boy is giving me trouble . Someone told me because it has spools? I’m not sure. If I can take the retaining plate off the end it can be recored - it’s not an American it a master.

Your experience with the TapCon screws pretty much follows mine - they're tempered pretty hard and do tend to be on the brittle side. In fact, I've had fairly good luck when it's time to get rid of them when remodeling by just smacking them sideways with a hammer and having them ping off into space.

That core puller looks very reminiscent of a device I've seen used to test paint/coating adhesion. I believe this was the exact one:

Instead of tugging on a screw head, it used these little mushroom shaped test "dollies" that are glued to the surface coating.

I'm suspecting the reason the locking mechanism didn't rotate when you attempted to turn it after pulling the cylinder is that the spring above it got wedged at an odd angle. I had that happen on some padlock after changing the cylinder, reassembling, and locking it. The fix was, uh, unscientific but effective: throw the lock in the air and let it come crashing down on an asphalt parking lot, after which it worked fine.

A japanese style philips screwdriver bit with a ratchet is good for getting leverage on screws that are hard to put in. Basically just file off the tip of a philips head a tiny bit so it's flat and it won't slip nearly as easily.
